A 4-Day Kashmir Itinerary: The Route That Fits Between a Weekend and a Week

Three days feels rushed and seven is more than many people can spare - four days is the real middle ground, and it fits Srinagar plus two hill stations without the constant back-and-forth of a shorter trip.

In This Article

  1. Day 1: Arrive Srinagar
  2. Day 2: Srinagar sightseeing
  3. Day 3: Gulmarg
  4. Day 4: Pahalgam, then departure
  5. What this itinerary skips
  6. Frequently asked questions

Four days is an underrated length for a first Kashmir trip. It is enough to add a second hill station to the 3-day plan without the constant motion of trying to fit everything into 3 days, and it does not need the full week our 7-day itinerary covers. Here is the version that works.

Day 1: Arrive Srinagar

Check into a houseboat or lakeside hotel, and use the evening for a Dal Lake shikara ride in the last couple of hours before sunset.

Day 2: Srinagar sightseeing

The Mughal Gardens (Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh), Shankaracharya Temple for the view, and if time allows, a pass through the old city bazaars. This is the one full day dedicated to Srinagar itself.

Day 3: Gulmarg

A day trip to Gulmarg (about 2 hours from Srinagar) for the Gondola. See our Gondola ticket guide for current phase pricing.

Day 4: Pahalgam, then departure

A half-day trip to Pahalgam (about 2.5 hours from Srinagar) covering Betaab Valley, before heading back for a same-day or early evening flight. If your flight is early, swap this for a relaxed final Srinagar morning instead - a rushed Pahalgam visit followed by a tight airport run is worse than skipping it.

info

Either order works. Some travellers prefer the Gondola early in the trip while energy is highest; others save Pahalgam's gentler pace for the last full day. See our destination comparisons for more on picking between Kashmir's hill stations.

What this itinerary skips

  • Sonamarg - it needs its own full day and doesn't fit alongside two other hill stations in 4 days
  • A deep old-city heritage walk - a quick pass is fine, but this deserves its own half-day if you care about it
  • Any single-day combination of Gulmarg and Pahalgam - keep them on separate days

Frequently asked questions

Is 4 days enough for Kashmir?

For a first visit covering Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam at a reasonable pace, yes. It will not comfortably fit Sonamarg as well - that needs a 5-day or longer trip.

What is the difference between this and the 3-day itinerary?

The 3-day itinerary fits Srinagar plus one hill station. The extra day here adds a second hill station (Gulmarg and Pahalgam both, rather than a choice between them).
