Is Kashmir Safe for a Package Trip in 2026-27?
The honest answer starts with what happened. On 22 April 2025, militants killed 26 people at Baisaran meadow above Pahalgam. Authorities closed 48 of the 87 tourist sites in the Kashmir valley afterwards and have reopened them in stages: Betaab Valley and the Pahalgam parks in June 2025, Aru Valley in September 2025. Baisaran itself had not reopened as of the latest reports we have seen.
Visitor numbers fell by more than half in 2025 and have largely recovered in Srinagar, Gulmarg and Sonamarg in 2026, with Pahalgam slower to come back. Security in the main tourist areas is visibly heavy. Check current government advisories before you travel, carry photo ID, and follow local instructions. A weekend (2-3 days) is enough for Srinagar and Gulmarg alone. 5 nights and 6 days is the minimum recommended duration to cover Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam comfortably. For a complete Kashmir experience including Sonamarg, plan for 7 nights. Pilgrimage trips including Amarnath Yatra require a minimum of 5 nights from arrival in Srinagar.
Is Kashmir safe for tourists in 2026-27?
Tourists travel to Srinagar, Gulmarg and Sonamarg in large numbers again in 2026, under heavy security. Be aware of the background: on 22 April 2025 militants killed 26 people at Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam, and authorities closed 48 of 87 valley tourist sites before reopening them in stages (Betaab Valley in June 2025, Aru Valley in September 2025). Baisaran had not reopened as of the latest reports. Check government advisories before you travel and carry photo ID. What happens if snowfall or a road closure disrupts my Kashmir trip?
Kashmir's weather can change a day's plan with little warning, especially the Sonamarg and Gulmarg roads in winter. Because our team is based in Srinagar, we monitor road status directly and rearrange your itinerary in real time - swapping a closed-road day for an alternative, rather than you finding out at the hotel lobby.

Are Gulmarg Gondola tickets included in Kashmir packages?
In a few of our packages, yes; in most, no, because tickets are sold per phase and depend on the weather on the day. Phase 1 (Gulmarg to Kongdori) costs about ₹800 per person and Phase 2 (to Apharwat) about ₹1,000, and Phase 2 needs a Phase 1 ticket first. Each package page lists whether the gondola is included. Are Pahalgam local sightseeing cabs included?
No. Aru Valley, Betaab Valley and Chandanwari are served by the Pahalgam taxi union, so your package cab drops you in Pahalgam and the valley circuit is paid locally: about ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 per vehicle for all three (an Innova was about ₹2,700 in 2025-26). Agree the fare at the union stand before you set off.
Is one night on a houseboat enough?
For most travellers, yes. One night on Dal or Nigeen Lake gives you the sunset, the morning shikara and the experience itself; a second night suits honeymooners and slow travellers. Check heating in winter and how the shikara transfer to the boat works.
Gulmarg or Pahalgam: which is better for couples?
Gulmarg is the snow, gondola and big-mountain view; Pahalgam is the river, pine valleys and quieter evenings. Most of our couple and honeymoon packages include both, usually with Gulmarg as a day trip and a night or two in Pahalgam. Full comparison: Pahalgam or Gulmarg.
Can I combine Kashmir with Vaishno Devi?
Yes. Since June 2025 the Vande Bharat train links Katra (the base for Vaishno Devi) with Srinagar in about 3 hours, so you can do the yatra first and take the train into Kashmir. Allow 2 extra days for Katra. We plan this as a custom trip; send us your dates.
When can I see snow in Kashmir?
December to February is the most reliable, with Gulmarg the best bet; Gulmarg often has snow into March, and the upper gondola station at Apharwat can hold snow well into summer. Snow on a specific date is never guaranteed, so winter itineraries should keep a flexible day.
