Quick Answer: Gulmarg in November is cold, quiet and unpredictable: days are crisp and often clear, nights drop towards or below freezing, and snow may dust Apharwat or the meadow, though it rarely settles for long before December. Crowds are thin and rooms are easier to find. Go for calm and views, not guaranteed snow.

November is Gulmarg's in-between month. The golden autumn grass has faded, the summer pony crowds are gone and the ski season has not yet started. Some mornings the meadow is white with frost under a hard blue sky; some afternoons cloud rolls off Apharwat and the first flakes fall. If you like mountains without the noise, it can be the best time of year to be here.

This guide covers what Gulmarg in November is really like this year and how to plan it. For the wider valley, see Kashmir in November.

What is the weather like in Gulmarg in November?

Expect cold, mostly dry weather with occasional western disturbances bringing cloud, rain lower down and snow higher up. Nights fall towards freezing early in the month and below it as November goes on; days stay cool and the sun at 2,650 metres feels strong. This season started early: Gulmarg had its first snow on 14 and 15 October 2026. By 26 October the night minimum had risen back to 0.6 degrees Celsius, with a dry spell forecast to the end of the month and only light snow on higher passes such as Sinthan Top and Peer Ki Gali on 24 October.

In short, the weather in November swings. Check the live Gulmarg snowfall page in the days before you travel.

Will there be snow in Gulmarg in November?

Possibly, but do not plan a trip around it. In most years November brings at least one snowfall to Apharwat and sometimes to the meadow, but it can melt within days. Settled, reliable snow usually arrives in mid to late December, and the 40-day deep winter of Chillai Kalan begins on 21 December. If snow is the whole point of your trip, look at our Gulmarg in December guide instead.

Local tip: even without snow on the meadow, the gondola often takes you up to snow on the upper slopes in late November. Ask on the day what the top looks like.

Is the Gulmarg gondola open in November?

Usually, yes. The gondola, run by the J&K Cable Car Corporation, operates through November but can stop in high wind or bad weather, and the operator schedules routine maintenance days. It also had a month-long closure this summer after a malfunction on 25 May 2026, reopening on 25 June after the manufacturer certified the repairs. Book through our Gulmarg gondola tickets page and check the operator's notices before you go.

  • ✓Thermal base layers, a fleece and a warm insulated jacket.
  • ✓Waterproof shoes with grip; frost makes paths slippery in the morning.

The honest summary: Gulmarg in November rewards people who want the mountain to themselves, and disappoints only those who came expecting a ski resort.
