Overview
Kishtwar, in the Chenab Valley of the Jammu division, is known as the "land of saffron and sapphire". It produces its own prized Kishtwari saffron and lies near the famous Paddar sapphire mines. It is the base for the Machail Mata pilgrimage and connects to the Kashmir Valley over the scenic Sinthan Top. Kishtwar is a rugged, high-mountain region of forests, gorges, and alpine meadows.
