Eid al-Fitr in 2027 is expected around 10 March, subject to moon sighting. Gandhi Jayanti falls on a Saturday in 2027, so it does not make a long weekend.
Winter holidays: Christmas, New Year and Republic Day
These three are the snow holidays. Gulmarg is normally under snow from late December, the gondola runs in good weather and skiing starts. Srinagar is cold and bright, and houseboats run heaters. New Year week is the most booked week of winter and hotels in Gulmarg add a compulsory dinner charge on 31 December. Republic Day weekend is usually easier to book and has the deepest snow.

Holi and Good Friday week: spring and tulips
In 2027 Holi and Good Friday fall in the same week, so three days of leave can give a 7 to 9 day break. Late March is early spring: almond orchards in Srinagar bloom, Gulmarg still has snow on the upper slopes, and the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden usually opens in the last week of March. The opening date is announced each year and the peak bloom can shift with the weather, so we confirm it before you book.
Summer school holidays: peak season
Late May and June are when most north Indian schools close, and they are Kashmir's busiest months. Every place is open, from Sonamarg and Thajiwas glacier to Aru and Betaab valleys, and the weather is the most reliable of the year. The trade-off is demand: good hotels, the gondola and cabs sell out. Book 60 to 90 days ahead for June, and book the gondola as soon as your dates are fixed.
