A Kashmir ziyarat tour package combines those visits with the valley's scenery, planned around prayer times. This guide lists the main shrines, a sample itinerary, etiquette, the best times to go and today's live prices.

Etiquette and practical tips

  • ✓Dress modestly; women should carry a scarf to cover their heads. Shoes come off before entering.
  • ✓Women pray in separate sections at the larger mosques and shrines; some inner areas are for men only.
  • ✓Photography is restricted inside some shrines; ask before taking pictures.
  • ✓Food across the valley is halal, from roadside kebabs to a full wazwan. See Kashmiri wazwan.
  • ✓Hotels can give prayer mats and qibla direction; most areas have a mosque within walking distance.

Best time for a ziyarat tour

April to October is the most comfortable, with every road open. Urs days at the shrines and occasions when the Hazratbal relic is displayed bring very large crowds, which some visitors seek out and others avoid; tell us your preference. Ramadan in 2027 is expected from around 9 February, with Eid al-Fitr around 10 March, subject to moon sighting. In winter, the old city shrines are easy to visit but Gulmarg and Pahalgam are under snow.
